Unit 2 - Overview

We will be watching two videos in class, both produced by Frontline. "Growing Up Online" and "Digital Nation" Links to an external site. These videos are getting older now, but they still have relevant topics that can help people understand complex emotions that are evoked from internet use, in school and at home. 

We will be going through a series of questions and discussion topics that relate to the videos. 

You will work with fellow group members to come up with a home internet policy that will keep a family of five safe online. See the rubric below. 

Finally, you will reflect on your SLATE blog about this unit and what you have learned.

Design Knowledge Application Presentatoin Process
  • Policy can be read and understood by the 9-year-old, the 12-year-old and the 15-year-old.
  • Policy can be understood in one page worth of information (The policy is only one page)
  • Policy includes 3 or more ideas from 3 or more sources.
  • Policy has key safety vocabulary for the different age group
  • Knowledge of internet dangers is obvious by the way the policy is written
  • Clear understanding about how to avoid said dangers. 
  • Policy reads and is formatted to look like an internet safety policy (look online for formatting examples)
  • Policy has references 
  • Group uses worktime wisely
  • Evidence of multiple resources both found and given in the completed policy 
  • Work completed on time
